Advisory issued with heavy rain in the forecast for Halifax

CITYnews halifax/ By Mark Hodgins

It’s forecast to be a wet and windy end to the work week for parts of Nova Scotia.

A special weather statement is in effect for the Atlantic coastline, from Shelburne to Halifax, with a system expected to bring a period of “intense” rainfall to the area beginning Thursday evening.

“Thunderstorms may develop over some areas, producing locally heavier rainfall,” reads the statement from Environment Canada. “There is some uncertainty as to where the highest rainfall amounts will occur, but the potential exists for significant totals over some locations.”

The statement says 30 to 50mm or more is possible from Thursday evening to Friday evening.

The national forecaster says localized flooding is possible for low-lying areas or those with poor drainage, and creeks and smaller rivers could see water levels rise quickly.
