N.S. marks 81st anniversary of Battle of the Atlantic

Ceremonies in Nova Scotia on Sunday will commemorate the 81st anniversary of the longest continuous military engagement of the Second World War.

The Battle of the Atlantic, fought from 1939 until 1945, saw more than 4,500 Canadian lose thier lives.

A ceremony will be held at the Halifax Memorial in Point Pleasant Park at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, proceeded by a military parade marching to the memorial. A Royal Canadian Air Force flyby will happen at 10:58 a.m.

“We encourage all members of the community to join us in remembering the sailors, merchant mariners, and aviators who served and sacrificed for our country,”

Another parade and ceremony is set to happen in Chester, featuring a contingent of sailors from HMCS Scotian.
