Halifax police warn public to watch their drinks following tampering incidents

CITYnews halifax / By Chris Halef

Halifax Regional Police are warning people to keep a close eye on their beverages after a pair of possible drink tampering incidents.

On Sunday, officers responded to two separate incidents involving women who became ill and showed signs of impairment after drinking small amounts of alcohol.

Police said in both cases, they required medical attention.

According to HRP, the incidents took place at different establishments, and there is currently no evidence to suggest they are connected.

Officers are now investigating whether the drinks may have been tampered with, as administering a drug to a person without their knowledge or consent is a criminal offence.

More crime stories:

If a drink has been tampered with, symptoms can appear either suddenly or within five to 30 minutes after consumption. Effects can sometimes last up to 12 hours.

According to police, common symptoms may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty walking
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • Memory loss
  • Unconsciousness/passing out
  • Difficulty breathing

Police are urging anyone who may have experienced these symptoms and believe their drink may have been tampered with to call 911.
