Black Cultural Centre for N.S. gets a funding boost from the province

As Nova Scotia continues to mark African Heritage Month, the provincial government is announcing more support for the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia.

The province has announced it is investing $1.2 million into the Cherry Brook facility.

African Nova Scotian Affairs Minister Twila Grosse says the funding will help the centre build capacity and make African Nova Scotian history and culture accessible for generations to come.

Black Cultural Society chair Mervyn Broome says the investment is an important milestone that will empower the centre to embark on ambitious projects to ensure stories and traditions are preserved.

The centre officially opened in 1983 and houses a museum as well as hosts many events, including concerts, plays, workshops and lectures.
