Five men face obstruction charges related to Dartmouth shooting

Five men are facing obstruction charges in connection to a shooting that happened in Dartmouth Thursday.

Officers responded to a report of an injured man near Wright Avenue and Garland Avenue around shortly after 11 a.m. Police say when they arrived they found a 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

But according to Halifax Police, the victim did not stay in the hospital long.

Shortly before 3 p.m., an officer stationed on Burnside Drive near Wright Avenue, noticed a parked vehicle on the shoulder.

Police say two men were outside the vehicle while three other men, including the shooting victim, were inside.

All five men were were arrested for obstruction of justice.

Police said during a vehicle search, they found and seized a loaded gun. A second loaded gun was found and seized outside the vehicle.

All five men, Adriece Downey, 19; Jai’Mere Downey, 23; Jui’Keithen Downey, 23; Moreldo Downey, 31; and Jason Downey, 56, are scheduled to appear in court.

According to HRP, each man is facing multiple firearms related charges and obstruction charges.
