Watch upgraded to warning as winter storm targets Nova Scotia

CITYnews halifax / By Dan Ahlstrand

The Halifax area and much of Nova Scotia is under a winter storm warning on Monday afternoon with a nor’easter forecast to bring snow and strong winds to the province on Tuesday.

Environment Canada’s warning said 15-20 cm is expected, although 25 cm is still not out of the question. Strong winds gusting to 60 km/h and possibly 80 km/h in some areas are also expected.

Meteorologist Ian Hubbard said the snow is expected to start mid-to-late afternoon Tuesday and intensify into the evening hours. He said the strongest winds are also expected in the evening, and the combination could make for visibility issues.

Hubbard said confidence was growing for the storms’ impacts, but said the forecast could still change depending on the storm track. He was cautioning Nova Scotians to keep an eye on the forecast into Tuesday morning.
