Halifax Regional Police say the incident occurred Sunday afternoon, after staff at a Canadian Tire confronted a man accused of stealing items and threatening employees with a knife. An off-duty officer who witnessed the scene, attempted to make an arrest and restrained the suspect. While the officer was struggling with the suspect, a person in a white SUV drove towards them, hitting an employee before circling the parking lot and returning. Police say the driver briefly stopped, got out of the vehicle and tried to pull the officer off the suspect before jumping back into the SUV. The man then drove toward the officer a second time before fleeing the scene. Police say they located a vehicle soon after matching the same description of the SUV outside a home on Ferguson Road in Dartmouth and arrested the driver. Two men appeared in court yesterday to face several charges, including a pair of assault charges each and robbery. A 43-year-old man is also facing possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest charges.
