Fans grabbing a drink or some popcorn might have missed a goal or two early on in this one. The Sea Dogs opened the scoring just two minutes into the opening frame, but the 1-0 lead wouldn’t last long. Halifax’s Zach Beauregard would find the twine just 24 seconds later to tie the game at one, before the teams traded two more quick goals to make the game 2-2 before the seven minute mark. A late marker from captain Elliot Desnoyers sent the home side to the first intermission with a 3-2 lead. The second period saw two goals from Saint John giving the Sea Dogs a 4-3 lead heading into the final frame. Saint John would increase the lead to 5-3 on a goal from William Dufour, the QMJHL’s leading goal scorer. A fortuitous bounce on a dump-in from the neutral zone would put Saint John up 6-3. Halifax would convert on the powerplay late in the third to make it 6-4, and that would be the final.
