Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) says school were closed Jan. 19, 26 and 27 due to excessive snowfall. With another storm approaching, there is a possibility the kids will be home again on Monday. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Halifax Metro and Halifax County West. The national weather forecaster says the region can expect 10 to 15 cm of snow with winds gusting at 60 to 80 km/h. “Snowfall warning criteria is not expected but significant snowfall is still likely. The snow will be accompanied by reduced visibility in blowing snow over exposed areas,” Environment Canada says. CityNews meteorologist Allister Aalders says the snowfall and high winds are the result of a nor’easter that has been developing over the Carolinas and travelling northeast up into the Maritimes. “The snow coupled with stronger winds means blowing and drifting snow, and the potential for power outages,” Aalders says. “There is a greater chance of white out and, for some, blizzard-like conditions. I expect delays and cancellations on Monday and do plan for poor travel conditions, especially where the moderate and heavy snow amounts coincide with these strong winds.” The storm surge mixed with high tides also has the potential to raise water levels. Environment Canada has issued a coastal flooding statement for Halifax and Yarmouth counties and are encouraging those who live along the shore to monitor the situation. “Coastal erosion may occur in vulnerable locations,” it says. “Avoid affected shorelines where hazardous conditions may develop.” (Allister Aalders/CityNews) 0 comment 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail admin previous post Photo Gallery: Heated Rivalry at Prime Time media production conference in Ottawa next post في دافوس… حكاية خطابين You may also like ‘A terrible idea’: Halifax to raise parking fees,... 6 مارس، 2026 Man found with gunshot wound in Dartmouth 5 مارس، 2026 Dartmouth director makes feature film debut amid N.S.... 5 مارس، 2026 Human remains found in Bridgewater deemed ‘suspicious’ 5 مارس، 2026 Cuts to benefits for caregivers in N.S. will... 5 مارس، 2026 كأس العالم لكرة القدم : ارتفاع أسعار غرف الفنادق... 5 مارس، 2026 الشرق الأوسط : مارك كارني يؤكّد أنّ كندا... 5 مارس، 2026 Hundreds rally against arts and culture cuts in... 5 مارس، 2026 NSCAD teaching assistants on strike after negotiations come... 5 مارس، 2026 Schools in Halifax, other regions delay opening due... 5 مارس، 2026
