The Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC) is looking to brighten up those winter blues.

Light shows are back at Grafton Park, helping to bring a bit of cheer as the days get shorter.

Friday marked the first light show of the season with a special Remembrance Day projection on the facade of the former Halifax Memorial Library at the corner of Spring Garden Road and Grafton Street.

This year’s light projection show series will run until Jan. 18, 2026, with the schedule including seven different seasonal and cultural themed shows.

Each show runs until 11 p.m. Shows will start earlier as dusk creeps in earlier edging towards the winter solstice. The DHBC says the purpose of the program is to “bring beauty and light into Downtown Halifax during the darkest months”.

The program also includes light installations at several parks, a 28-foot lit-up tree at Peace and Friendship Park, and winter-themed decorations around the downtown core.

For a full list of installations, or to find dates of the light shows, visit the DHBC website.
