Search and rescue exercise Saturday in Halifax Harbour

by admin
If you’re in or around the harbour, you may see an unusually high number of emergency responders

If you’re in or around the harbour Saturday, you may see an unusually high number of emergency responders, particularly near Eastern Passage and King’s Wharf.

That’s because a large-scale search and rescue exercise will be taking place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 5.

In news release posted to social media, Halifax Search and Rescue says they’ll be simulating a rescue scenario for a paddle adventure trip.

Crews will be searching land and sea throughout the harbour and on McNabs Island to locate the mock paddlers.

In addition to search and rescue teams, military, police and provincial officials will all be taking part.

“The goal of the exercise is to improve operational efficiency, enhance interoperability and provide a realistic training opportunity for members of the participating agencies,” the news release said.

“This combined exercise will give responders from multiple agencies the opportunity to work together and hone skills that could save a life in a real emergency situation,” Halifax Search and Rescue added.
