There will be a delayed start to classes in Halifax and elsewhere around the province.

Due to a mix of snow and rain that moved in over Nova Scotia overnight, all Halifax Regional Centre for Education schools will delay opening by two hours on Wednesday.

This means bused students will be picked up two hours later than their regular time.

Lunch and dismissal will be at regularly scheduled times, but EXCEL programs are cancelled for the morning only.

HRCE says the decision was based on an expected snowfall of 8-10 cm throughout the region and a transition to rain during the morning commute.

Offices and worksites will also delay opening by two hours. Other school districts have also decided to make changes to their day.

Due to icy road conditions, all Tri-County Regional Centre for Education schools are closed on Wed. with offices and worksites opening at 10 a.m.

All CCRCE schools (Cumberland County, Pictou County, Colchester County and schools in the municipality of East Hants) will be closed but offices and work sites remain open.

Annapolis Valley Regional Centre schools will open two hours later than usual today due to road conditions, and bus drivers will use their discretion on roads.

Lunenburg County schools in the South Shore Regional Centre for Education will delay their starts with back road closures in place.

Schools in Queens County will open as usual.
