A fire at the Halifax Armoury is now under control, and nearby roads have reopened.

According to a post on social media, Halifax Professional Fire Fighters said crews responded just after 4 a.m. to alarms sounding at the Armoury on North Park Street opposite the Halifax Common.

Authorities say they arrived to find an active fire, which was raised to a two-alarm fire, activating support from the DND Dockyard.

In an update, Halifax Professional Fire Fighters said crews had the fire under control and would likely be on scene for several hours on Thursday.

Halifax Regional Police said roads near the Armoury reopened to pedestrian and vehicle traffic around 12:30 p.m.
