Nova Scotia reports that 68 people are currently in the hospital due to COVID-19 on Jan. 16.

The province also reports that 10 people remain the ICU.

Of those 68 people, 65 were admitted during the Omicron wave.

Each patient is receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit.

The age range of people in the hospital is between 0 and 100-years-old while the average age is 65.

Two other groups are also hospitalized due to COVID-19.

That includes 60 people who were identified as positive cases upon arrival to the hospital but were admitted for another medical reason or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer require specialized care.

The second group includes 112 people who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to the hospital.

On Jan. 15, Nova Scotia Health Authority labs completed 3,711 tests. The province also reports an additional 696 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

As of Sunday, the province breaks down each health zone with the following cases:

  • 447 cases in Central Zone
  • 108 cases in Eastern Zone
  • 105 cases in Western zone
  • 36 cases in Northern Zone

The state of emergency that was declared on March 22, 2020 has been extended to Jan. 23, 2022.

The province is issuing abbreviated COVID-19 news releases on the weekend. It’ll update the online dashboard on Monday, Jan. 17.

The number of COVID-19 patients admitted and discharged from the hospital is not available on Sunday.
