Mooseheads edge Remparts in shootout to open six-game road trip

The Remparts opened the scoring just 49 seconds into the first period as Mathias Loiselle tipped a shot from Charlie Morrison past Owen Bresson. Owen Philips tied the game with his first goal of the season for the Mooseheads, taking advantage of an opportunity in front of the Remparts goal at 13:33.

Oleg Kulebiakin scored his 13th of the season in the second to give the Herd their first lead of the night, taking the puck up centre ice, deking past the Remparts defence and beating Quebec netminder Louis-Antoine Denault on the backhand. Loiselle retied the contest at 6:18, taking advantage of an error in the Halifax end and forcing overtime.

For the second game in a row, a shootout was required following a scoreless extra frame. After five rounds, Jasu Mensonen beat Denault to secure the 3-2 win for the Mooseheads.

With the win, Halifax improves to 12-6-1-1 on the season.

The first star of the match went to Loiselle with a pair of goals for the Remparts. Second star was awarded to Kulebiakin and Denault earned third star with 33 saves in the loss.

The Mooseheads will continue their road trip on Friday, Nov. 21 when they face the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
