Man facing weapons trafficking charges after being pulled over near Halifax

The RCMP says a man from New Brunswick is facing a long list of charges after a traffic stop in Enfield

According to police, an officer pulled over an Audi A5 on Highway 102 on the evening of Aug. 29 because it had a tinted passenger window, which is illegal in Nova Scotia.

“The RCMP officer initiated a traffic stop, smelled marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle and the driver,” police wrote in a media release. “The search resulted in the seizure of cannabis, a loaded 9mm handgun and a quantity of cash.”

Police say Robert Victor Fraser, 32, of Saint John, N.B. is now facing several charges including:

  • Unauthorized possession of firearm (two counts)
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle in which there is a firearm, prohibited weapon, a restricted weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possess a firearm knowing that the serial number on it has been altered
  • Possess firearm while prohibited (two counts)
  • Possession of firearm knowing possession is unauthorized (two counts)
  • Possession of a weapon or device knowing its possession is unauthorized (two counts)
  • Weapons trafficking
  • Laundering proceeds of crime
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

He appeared in Dartmouth court on Tuesday and is being held in custody with another court date set for later this month.
