Man charged after fleeing police twice

A man from Sheet Harbour has been charged after resisting arrest and escaping police custody.

Officers from the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment attended a home in Sheet Harbour on Jan. 29 around 3:15 p.m. They were searching for a man who had breached a release order.

RCMP say the man exited the residence through a window and fled on foot.

Officers ran after the man who entered the East River. He later came out and was arrested.

The man was transported to hospital by EHS. After being released from hospital, officers say he fled into a wooded area.

With assistance from the HRP Canine Unit, HRD Street Crime Enforcement, HRD Community Action Response Team, and a remotely piloted aircraft system, the man was located and safely taken into custody.

A 23-year-old man has now been charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order, resisting arrest, and escaping from lawful custody.

The accused appeared in custody on Jan. 30 and remains in custody pending further court appearances.
