Helicopter fire training happening this week in Herring Cove

CITYnews halifax / By Mark Hodgins

The Department of National Defence and the Royal Canadian Navy says training is scheduled for this week in Herring Cove.

The night helicopter training happens twice annually to ensure Canadian Armed Forces members are ready for a fire on a ship or aircraft in after-dark scenarios, according to a media release.

The release says flames from the helicopter may be visible to people on land or on the water.

“While these flames can be fairly large, the public can rest assured that they are fully under control, and that safety teams will be on-site monitoring all activities,” the release read.

The training will happen Thursday, Nov. 20, from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.
