Halifax police detonates live grenade found outside home in Dartmouth

Regional police say they detonated a grenade found outside a home in Dartmouth on Tuesday.

At roughly 6:30 a.m., officers responded to a call from a resident on Pauline Crescent reporting that a grenade had been thrown onto their property.

This prompted HRP to evacuate homes and close the street to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The area was closed for the majority of the day on July 15 while an investigation happened.

Officials said the Explosives Disposal Unit, along with the Navy’s Fleet Diving Unit, used a robot to x-ray the suspicious item and confirmed it was a live grenade.

They then moved it away from nearby homes, and at roughly 3:40 p.m., they detonated the grenade successfully.

According to HRP, no one was injured and there was no property damage.

Police said the streets have since been reopened and the investigation is ongoing.
