Eagles defeat Mooseheads 4-2 in final game of 2023

The Halifax Mooseheads came up short in their final game of 2023, falling to the Cape Breton Eagles 4-2 on Sunday.

The Mooseheads drew first blood as newly signed Vegas Golden Knights prospect Mathieu Cataford found the back of Cape Breton’s net late in the opening frame.

The Eagles evened things up late in the second period on a goal from Lincoln Waugh, making it 1-1 heading into the third period.

Liam Kilfoil restored the Herd’s lead early in the third with his seventh goal of the season.

The Eagles tied things up near the midway point of the period as Charles-Antoine Lavallée snuck one passed Jack Milner.

Then in the final minute, Cole Burbidge gave Cape Breton their first lead of the game which was quickly followed up by an empty netter by Angelo Fullerton to seal the deal.

The Mooseheads are back on the road on Wednesday, taking on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
