There’s been a significant jump in fuel prices as we head into the first weekend of July.

In its weekly Friday adjustment, the Nova Scotia Energy Board increased the price of regular self-serve gasoline to 176.7 cents.

That represents an overnight increase of 7.8 cents per litre.

Diesel also went up nearly 2 cents to 194.9, which is its second price jump of the week.

On Canada Day, the provincial regulator invoked the interrupter to raise diesel prices by 7.6 cents, due to what it said was a significant shift in the market price for diesel oil.

On Thursday, the August crude oil contract finished up 11 cents at US$68.69 per barrel.

This time last year, Nova Scotians were paying 140.1 for gas and diesel was 153.4.
