LUNENBURG — The Nova Scotia government is spending millions of dollars to help a Lunenburg, N.S., daycare grow its number of child care spaces by almost 70 per cent.

Local representative Susan Corkum-Greek announced the $4.5 million in funding for the expanding Lunenburg Day Care Centre on Monday.

The money will add 77 more spaces to the centre, which can currently accommodate about 113 children.

There are 54 new spaces for toddlers, 12 for preschoolers and 10 for infants.

Since 2021, the department says it’s created more than 9,600 new child care spaces across Nova Scotia.

It says there are 2,700 more spaces under development.

“The Lunenburg Day Care Centre has been a valued part of this community since 1973, supporting generations of children and families,” Corkum-Greek said in a statement.
