Canada Day forecast: Showers may impact fireworks

Monday marks the last official day of school for students in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education, and with report cards in hand, many are heading into summer break just in time for Canada Day celebrations.

After a wet and cool weekend, temperatures are heating up. Monday’s daytime high is expected to feel like 29 C with the humidex.

As for Canada Day, and particularly Tuesday night’s fireworks over the harbour, conditions may not hold steady.

Allister Aalders, 95.7’s weather specialist, said Tuesday will be mostly dry and humid, with a mix of sun and cloud and feel-like temperatures between 27 and 29 C.

“For the evening, the same can’t be said,” Aalders said. “Clouds are forecast to roll in, some fog patches could develop, and a few showers or drizzle are expected to move through Tuesday evening and night. That could include the primetime for fireworks.”

If the forecast holds, Aalders says it could impact some of the scheduled displays.

Halifax Regional Municipality says the fireworks are still set to begin at 10 p.m. on Canada Day.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, clouds are expected to linger. Wednesday’s high is forecast at 28 C, cooling to a more seasonal 24 C on Thursday and 22 C on Friday.
