Alderney service back to reduced schedule three days after ferry repaired

by admin

CITYnews halifax / By Mark Hodgins

Three days after one of Halifax’s returned to service after a months-long repair, another ferry is now in need of work.

The municipality announced on Friday that Alderney Ferry service will again be reduced to every 30 minutes starting at 2:15 p.m.

That’s because a second ferry, the Christopher Stannix, is experiencing a steering problem that will require parts to be replaced, similar to the technical issue that kept the Vincent Coleman sidelined for months.

The Alderney route had only just returned to its regular service of every 15 minutes on Tuesday as the Coleman returned to service.

Once again, the municipality says repairs to the Stannix will require proprietary, internationally-manufactured parts.

“Halifax Transit staff are working with the international supplier in Europe to obtain the required parts to complete the repairs as soon as possible,” read a statement from Halifax staff. “An update will be provided when more information is available, as timing depends on the delivery of these parts.”

The Woodside Ferry route was expected to resume regular 15 minute service during peak hours after being impacted on Thursday night and Friday morning by the steering issues on the Stannix.
