An 18-year-old man is facing a hefty fine after being recorded driving nearly 60 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 102.

Halifax Regional Police say the incident occurred early Thursday near Larry Uteck Blvd when an officer with the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at 159 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

The 18-year-old driver was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.

According to police, the fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 as well as six points are assigned to the driver’s record.

Along with the fine, the teenaged driver has also had his license suspended for seven days and his vehicle has been seized.
