Sukhpreet Singh and his wife Ramandeep Kaur were originally charged with concealing the body of a child, obstruction of justice and causing an indignity to human remains. They were also charged on Monday with resisting a peace officer and were returned to custody pending a bail hearing on Thursday in Halifax. Halifax Regional Police say officers were dispatched to a hospital on Friday night after a 23-year-old woman arrived in poor condition and doctors determined she had recently given birth, prompting a search for the infant. Police said the woman was in critical condition Sunday and investigators said it appeared she had suffered a medical emergency that was not linked to violence. Related: Two charged after human remains of infant found in Halifax search The search for the newborn started at a residence on Willett Street in the city’s west end and concluded Sunday when searchers found remains in a wooded area along Prospect Road, southwest of downtown. Four people known to the woman were initially taken into custody for questioning on Saturday, but two were released without charges.
