No threat at MSVU after huge police response to weapons complaint

Halifax Regional Police says a lockdown at Mount Saint Vincent University has been lifted after a large police investigation sparked by reports of an armed robbery at the school’s cafeteria.

Officers responded to the university on the Bedford Highway around 1 p.m., to “second-hand” reports of an armed robbery at the cafe.

Officials said there were no reports of gunshots or injuries, and a lockdown at MSVU had been lifted.

“Police searched the school and found no evidence of a threat,” reads an update from HRP. “A police presence will remain as the investigation continues.”

CityNews Halifax was on scene and confirmed at least 25 police vehicles, including those from the RCMP, were on campus. Officers were on scene investigating a weapons complaint that was not connected to an earlier shooting in Dartmouth.

Mount Saint Vincent issued a notice that the university had been placed under hold and secure, and people on campus were asked to remain in place.
