Environment Canada issues warning as searing heat wave to hit Nova Scotia today

by admin

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Halifax and most of Nova Scotia will be entering its first heat wave of July.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for our region over the next couple of days.

The weather agency says humidex values are expected to reach 38 degrees today as very warm and humid weather moves in over the municipality and most of the province.

The time period of this heat wave is to begin today and last through tomorrow and possibly into Wednesday.

While cooler temperatures can be expected along the coast, the national weather agency says people should reduce their heat risk and stay indoors when possible.

People, particularly children and pets, should never remain in parked vehicles during such heat events.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
