The remains of two people were found on the shores of Sable Island National Park Reserve by Parks Canada staff.

According to a press release, RCMP officers from the Halifax detachment responded July 10 at around 3:15 p.m. The two bodies were in a 10-foot inflatable boat. Police believe it was a life boat from a larger vessel named Theros.

Officials believe the two people are a 70-year-old man and 60-year-old woman from British Columbia. The pair were reported missing to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre on June 18 after leaving Halifax Harbour on June 11 heading to Azores, a small island off the coast of Portugal.

The Nova Scotia coroner is working to confirm their identities.

The island the pair were found on is known for its wild horses. As one of the most remote parks in Canada, the island is only open to people for day trips.
