لقيت الملازم الأوّل أبيغيل كابرو مصرعها في حادثة تحطّم مروحيّة عسكريّة كنديّة في المياه الدوليّة بين اليونان وإيطاليا.
وكانت الملازم الأوّل كابرو (23 عاما) تشارك في مهمّة لقوّات حلف شمال الأطلسي الناتو على متن مروحيّة عسكريّة كنديّة من طراز سي إتش 148 ،إلى جانب خمسة من رفاقها ما زالوا مفقودين.
وأكّدت القوّات الكنديّة المسلّحة أنّها فقدت الاتّصال مع المروحيّة ليل الأربعاء، أثناء مشاركتها في مهمّة للناتو في المتوسّط، وأوضحت أنّها أجرت اتّصالات بعائلات كلّ الذين كانوا على متن المروحيّة.
وأكّد رئيس الحكومة الكنديّة جوستان ترودو النبأ في مؤتمر صحفي شارك فيه إلى جانب ترودو كلّ من وزير الدفاع هارجيت سجّان و رئيس أركان الدفاع الجنرال جوناثان فانس.

وأوضح الجنرال فانس من جهته أنّ القوّات المسلّحة اتّصلت بعائلات المفقودين الذين لم يتمّ الكشف عن هويّاتهم.

ولم تُعرف أسباب تحطّم المروحيّة وسوف يُجري فريق مختصّ التحقيق بشأنها على غرار التحقيقات التي يجريها مكتب سلامة النقل الكندي كما قال الجنرال فانس.
وكان رئيس الحكومة قد غرّد مساء الأربعاء على موقع تويتر مشيرا إلى أنّ جهود البحث والإنقاذ جارية وسيتمّ توفير المزيد من المعلومات في وقت لاحق كما ورد في التغريدة.
وتخرّجت الملازم الأوّل أبيغيل كابرو من المعهد العسكري الملكي الكندي عام 2018 وكانت تعمل برتبة ضابط هندسة الأنظمة البحريّة على متن السفينة الحربيّة الكنديّة فريدريكتون التي تشارك في مهمّة للناتو تستمرّ ستّة أشهر قبالة سواحل اليونان.
وأعرب شين كابرو زوج والدة الملازم الأوّل أبيغيل كابرو عن حزنه الشديد، وكتب على موقع فيسبوك مشيرا إلى أنّه يصعب عليه التعبير عن حزنه وأنّه طالما افتخر بالشابّة التي رحلت باكرا كما قال.
وأعربت الكنيسة المعمدانيّة ريغال هايست في فريدركتون عن حزنها لفقدان واحدة من أبنائها، وأضافت في رسالة على موقع فيسبوك أنّها فقدت “سيّدة مميّزة”.
وكانت أبيغيل كابرو تتقن العزف على آلة المزمار وقد عزفت من على ظهر السفينة فريدركتون تكريما لضحايا عمليّة إطلاق النار التي وقعت في نوفا سكوشا في الثامن عشر من الشهر الجاري وأودت بحياة 22 شخصا.
وقد بدأت القوّات الكنديّة عام 2018 باستخدام مروحيّات من طراز سيكلون التي تنقل عادة أربعة من أفراد الطاقم ويمكنها أن تتّسع للمزيد من الأشخاص على متنها.
وتستمرّ عمليّة البحث عن المفقودين في حادثة نحطّم المروحيّة وتشارك فيها قوّات بحريّة من اليونان وإيطاليا وتركيّا وقوّات أميركيّة.
