“كان الزمن مسافة غادرة، ولم يكن ممكنناً عبوره إلا باستبدالات خطيرة من المخيّلة”، تكتب الفلسطينية الشابة إيزابيلا حمّاد في روايتها الأولى، “الباريسي”، التي صدرت حديثاً في لندن عن دار “جوناثان كايب”. ومن أسفارٍ في الزمن والجغرافيا، محفوفة بالمخاطر، يتشكّل نسيج هذا العمل الضخم (560 صفحة) الذي لم تعد تحصى المقالات المديحية التي حصدها سواء في أميركا أو بريطانيا. اهتمام يستحقه بجدارة نظراً إلى تمكّن حمّاد فيه من إنارة حقبة مفصلية من تاريخ وطنها عبر تتبّعها مسيرة – ومغامرات- شاب يدعى مدحت منذ مطلع الحرب العالمية الأولى وحتى انتفاضة الفلسطيين الأولى ضد المستعمر البريطاني عام 1936. مدحت هو فلسطيني من مدينة نابلس يتلقّى تعليمه في مدرسة فرنسية في إسطنبول، قبل أن يرسله والده، تاجر القماش الثري، إلى مدينة مونبولييه الفرنسية لدراسة الطب وتجنيبه التجنيد الإجباري في الجيش العثماني. وفي هذه المدينة، يتعرّف إلى الشابة جانيت، ابنة عالم الأنثروبولوجيا فريديريك مولينو، التي فقدت أمّها وهي طفلة مثله، فيقع في غرامها. لكن حين يكتشف بالمصادفة أن والدها لم يفتح له داره إلا لدراسة سلوكه والاستعانة به كحقل تجارب من أجل إثبات استحالة تأقلُم شاب مسلم في مجتمع أوروبي، تثور ثائرته ويغادر مونبولييه وحبيبته إلى باريس، حيث يمضي سنوات أربعاً في دراسة التاريخ في جامعة السوربون والعيش كغندور، متنقلاً من علاقة عاطفية إلى أخرى. غليان قومي ومع نهاية الحرب العالمية الأولى، يعود مدحت إلى وطنه ليجده خاضعاً لسلطة الإستعمار البريطاني وفي حالة غليان قومي لا تلبث أن تعيق جهوده من أجل بناء حياةٍ تتماشى مع تطلّعات والده ورغبته الشخصية في الانتماء إلى مكانٍ ما. فلإرضاء هذا الوالد الذي كان على علم بحياة ابنه الماجنة في فرنسا، يقبل بالزواج من فاطمة، وهي شابة ديناميكية وعصرية تنجح لفترةٍ ما في كسب إعجابه. هكذا، “وبينما كان الجميع يناقش الانتداب، في أيار 1920، كان مدحت مأخوذاً بفاطمة”. البنية السردية لهذه الرواية، التي تقوم على تصوير التحوّلات التاريخية التي يشهدها بلدٌ ــ فلسطين ــ عن طريق عبور واحد من أبنائه من سنّ المراهقة إلى سنّ الرشد، تستحضر إلى أذهاننا مراجع كبرى من القرن التاسع عشر، مثل روايات تولستوي وتورغونييف وستاندال. لكن نموذج حمّاد هو من دون شك رائعة فلوبير “تربية عاطفية”. وليست مصادفة أن نرى مدحت يطالع هذه الرواية في فترةٍ ما. أما لقب “الباريسي” الذي يناله لدى عودته إلى نابلس، فيعود إلى سلوكه الغربي ومدافعته الشرسة عن الحريات الفردية والجماعية وقيَم الحداثة. لقب يتحلى في البداية بطابع إيجابي داخل محيطه، قبل أن يتّسم بسلبية وعدائية متصاعدتين مع إنكار الفرنسيين والبريطانيين حق الفلسطينيين في تقرير مصيرهم ووضعهم العقبة تلو الأخرى في وجه استقلالهم. وهو ما يعمّق شعور مدحت بالفصام الذي يصفه لحبيبته جانيت باكراً بقوله: “أنتمي إلى هنا (فرنسا) بقدر ما أنتمي إلى فلسطين”. غلاف الرواية (اندبندنت عربية) وكان بإمكان الروائية، التي ما زالت في بداية مسيرتها الكتابية، أن تختار لروايتها الأولى بطلاً بالمعنى الأول للكلمة، مثل قريب مدحت، الثوري جميل، أو مسؤولاً سياسياً يتحلى بـ “كاريزما”، مثل صديقه الباريسي هاني مراد. لكن حمّاد، مثل فلوبير، انتقت شخصية حالمة في حالة صراع مع نفسها ومحيطها. فحتى داخل حشدٍ غاضب من الناس، نرى مدحت داخل المشهد ومنفصل عنه، يتأمّله من بعيد. ومثل كل شخص يعيش بين عالمين، بين هويتين، نجده معرّضاً لارتكاب أخطاء جمّة: “حين أتأمل في حياتي، أرى لائحة طويلة من الأخطاء. أخطاء محبَّبة وجميلة”، يقول هذا الشاب لكاهن فرنسي فقد أوهامه وارتكب بنفسه خطأ رهيباً، قبل أن يضيف بأنه لن يصحِّحها، إن كانت لديه القدرة على ذلك. واقعية وتفاصيل فتننا هذه الرواية بحدّة واقعيتها المستشعَرة على مستويات عدّة، وبالحسّ التفصيلي المدهش لصاحبتها الذي يتجلّى في وصفها الدقيق والثابت للأزياء والأثاث والمنازل التي ندخلها معها، وفي غنى رسمها شخصياتها من خلال العلاقات التي تجمعها وتعرّي دواخلها. لكن قيمة “الباريسي” لا تقتصر على ذلك، فلدينا أيضاً ذلك التنقّل الحاذق والممتع بين أزمنة سرديتها الثلاثة: زمن الذاكرة الذي يجهد مدحت للمحافظة عليها أثناء إقامته في باريس، زمن عملية السرد نفسها المتحرّك دوماً بين ماضٍ وحاضر، والزمن التاريخي أو زمن فلسطين الساعية عبثاً لانتزاع استقلالها واعترافٍ دولي بكيانها القومي، والتي تنتقل تحت أنظارنا من يد العثمانيين إلى يد الإنجليز وتدفع وحدها كلفة المجازر التي ارتُكبت في أوروبا بحقّ اليهود عبر زحف هؤلاء المسعور إليها، إثر ذلك، واستعمارهم إياها بحجة أسطورة “أرض الميعاد”. وفي حال أضفنا مهارة حمّاد في استثمار عنصر التشويق وخلط الشامل والمحلي، السياسي والشخصي، لتبيّنت لنا كل قيمة نصّها التي تعود أيضاً إلى نثره الجميل والمطعَّم بقصائد غزيرة، وإلى طابعه الملحمي، من دون أن ننسى تلك البصيرة المريرة في وصف الإنقسامات والاضطرابات والمؤامرات السياسية التي عانى منها شرقنا في النصف الأول من القرن الماضي، والتي تتجاوب وتفسّر أحياناً الصراعات الداخلية التي تعيشها شخصيات الرواية. ولعل استيحاء الكاتبة روايتها من حياة جدّها مدحت كمال الذي وُلد في نهاية القرن التاسع عشر في فلسطين ولُقِّب بـ “الباريسي” نظراً إلى سلوكه الأوروبي، يفسّر جزئياً نجاحها في وضع عملٍ روائي بهذه القيمة. لكن تفاصيل حياة هذا الجدّ، على أهميتها، لا تختصر قصّتها التي تبقى قبل أي شيء قصةٌ حول قدرة المخيّلة على إبقاء حلم الاستقلال حيّاً لدى الشعوب المقهورة، وشعلة الحب متوهِّجة حتى بعد فترة طويلة من انفصال الحبيبَين. فعلى رغم انقطاع أخبار جانيت عنه منذ عودته إلى
