اليونان أرسلت طائرة تابعة للبحرية للمشاركة في عملية الإنقاذ
عُثر على جثة جندية في البحرية الكندية بين حطام مروحية عسكرية تحطمت خلال عملية لحلف شمال الأطلسي في البحر بين اليونان وإيطاليا، وفق ما أعلن مسؤولون.
ولا يزال خمسة عناصر آخرين من طاقم المروحية “سايكلون سيكورسكي سي إتش-148” في عداد المفقودين.
وكانت المروحية في طريق العودة إلى الفرقاطة فريديريكتون بعد مهمة تدريب عندما فُقد الاتصال بها.
في المقابل، قال رئيس الوزراء الكندي جاستن ترودو في مؤتمر صحافي في أوتاوا “تحطمت مروحية تابعة للبحرية الملكية الكندية كانت تشارك في مهمة لحلف شمال الأطلسي وعلى متنها ستة من أفراد القوات المسلحة الكندية، في البحر الأيوني قبالة سواحل اليونان”.
وأضاف “عُثر على إحدى الضحايا، فيما خمسة أفراد في عداد المفقودين”.
وأوضح مصدر عسكري يوناني لوكالة الصحافة الفرنسية طالباً عدم الكشف عن اسمه إنه “عُثر على حطام في منطقة مراقبة في البحر الأيوني”، مضيفاً أن “اليونان أرسلت مروحية تابعة للبحرية للمشاركة في عملية الإنقاذ” ومؤكداً أن الحطام يعود إلى المروحية الكندية.
وكانت الفرقاطة الكندية والمروحية التي تتعقّب الغواصات تشارك منذ 100 يوم في مهمة للحلف الأطلسي لردع روسيا.
وينتشر أكثر من 900 جندي كندي في شرق أوروبا في إطار عملية “رياشورانس” (الطمأنة) – أكبر انتشار دولي عسكري لكندا حالياً.
وقال وزير الدفاع الكندي هارجيت ساجان في مؤتمر صحافي مشترك إنّ سبب الحادث “غير معروف”، لافتاً إلى العثور على الصندوقين الأسودين اللّذين يحملان بيانات الرحلة.
وعند وقوع الحادث، لم يكن الطاقم والسفن المرافقة “يقومون بعملية مراقبة أو استهداف لأي سفينة معينة، لخصم أو غير ذلك”، وفق قائد أركان الدفاع الكندي الجنرال جون فانس، الذي قال “لا يمكننا استبعاد أي شيء، لكنني متأكد من الناحية العسكرية أن تحطّم المروحية لم يكن ناجماً عن احتكاك أو إسقاط”.
وأضاف الجنرال الكندي أنه عثر على “حقل حطام كبير” وأن عملية البحث والإنقاذ مستمرة في البحر البالغ عمقه 3 آلاف قدم، مؤكداً أيضاً العثور على جثة اللفتنانت أبيغيل كاوبرو في موقع التحطم، فيما أفادت وسائل الإعلام بأنها في الثالثة والعشرين من عمرها.
وقال والدها شين كاوبرو في رسالة على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي إنه “مكسور ومدمر” لخسارة ابنته الكبرى.
وتشارك في عملية البحث سفن وطائرات تابعة لحلف شمال الأطلسي تدعمها اليونان وإيطاليا وتركيا والولايات المتحدة، بحسب خوانيتا تشانغ، المتحدثة باسم “المقر الأعلى لقوى التحالف في أوروبا”.
وكانت تقارير أولية قد ذكرت أن المروحية كانت تحلق فوق المياه الدولية على بعد 50 ميلاً بحرياً (93 كلم) قبالة كيفالونيا.
وعند وقوع الحادث، كانت فرقاطات إيطالية ويونانية وتركية تشارك في التمارين إلى جانب الكنديين.
وغادرت الفرقاطة فريديريكتون كندا في 20 يناير (كانون الثاني) الماضي، ومن المقرر أن تعود إلى مرفئها في هاليفاكس في يوليو (تموز) المقبل.
وخلال التحقيق في أسباب التحطم الذي سيبدأ في وقت لاحق ومن أجل “استبعاد أن تكون هناك مشكلة على مستوى الأسطول”، سيتم وقف جميع المروحيات الجديدة نسبياً من طراز “سايلكون” التابعة للجيش الكندي مؤقتاً، بحسب الجنرال فانس، الذي لفت إلى أنّ حادثاً واحداً فقط طال المروحيات، عندما تسبّبت رياح قوية “بفقدان السيطرة عليها”، منذ بدء نشرها عام 2015 لاستبدال أسطول مروحيات “سي كينغز” المتقادمة.
