بعد وفاة النبي كانت الخلافة تُتناقل بطريقة الشورى، فقد اجتمع كبارُ الصحابة على تولية أبي بكر، ثمّ اختار أبو بكرٍ عمرَ، ثمّ اختار كبارُ الصحابة من بعد عمر عثمانَ، وبعد عثمان اختارت المدينة عليَّ بن أبي طالب، لكنَّ معاوية بن أبي سفيان والي الشام حينها رفض أن يبايع، فبدأت الحرب الكبرى التي انتهت بتثبيت أركان معاوية لملكه، لتبدأ أولى مراحل الخلافة الأمويّة.
استمرّ لمعاوية الحكم، وبعد وفاة الإمام الحسن بن علي تفرّد بالحكم بشكلٍ كامل، وأخذ البيعة لابنه يزيد قبيل وفاته.
لم يتثبّت الحكمُ ليزيد بن معاوية إلا بعدما قتل الحسين بن عليّ بن أبي طالب، وحارب عبدالله ومصعب بن الزبير، وكل التمردات والثورات التي قامت ضدّه، لكنّ قصة الخلافة الأموية لم تكتمل بنفس الشكل مع ابن يزيد: معاوية بن يزيد.
قصة معاوية بن يزيد والخلافة الأموية
بعد وفاة يزيد آلت الخلافة إلى معاوية ابنه، وهو حينها في سن الثانية والعشرين فقط، كان من المتوقّع أن يأخذ معاوية أحد مسارين، فالأوّل هو الغالب على الملوك والأمراء في هذه السنّ، وهو أن يتمتّع بالحياة في القصور ويتنعّم بالجواري، أو أن يُحكم قبضته على الدولة ليصير أحد أعظم الملوك والسلاطين والخلفاء، ويسطّر اسمه في التاريخ بهذه الطريقة.
لكنَّ معاوية بن يزيد لم يكن شغوفاً بكل هذا، فما نقلته لنا كُتبُ التاريخ عنه أنّه كان زاهداً عابداً، طالباً للعلم والعبادةِ فقط، غير آبِهٍ بملك الدنيا ومباهجها.
كان عبدالله بن الزبير في مكّة مناهضاً لحكم يزيد بن معاوية، فلم يُعطه بيعته طوال مدة حكمه واستجار بالحرم المكيّ، سيَّر يزيد جيشاً من المدينة لقتال عبدالله بن الزبير، لكنَّ الجيش انهزم، وما لبث أن توفي يزيد، لتبدأ قصّة معاوية بن يزيد.
حين بويع معاوية من الأمويين بالخلافة، صعِدَ المنبر وجمع الناس وأخبرهم أنّ الخلافة هي حبلُ الله، وأنّه يختلف مع جدِّه معاوية بن أبي سفيان في نزاعه مع علي بن أبي طالب على الخلافة، وأنه كذلك يختلفُ مع أبيه يزيد في قتله للحسين بن علي.
ثم قال: «لم أذُق حلاوة الخلافة، فلا أتقلَّدُ مرارتها، فشأنكم أمركم، والله لئن كانت الدنيا خيراً فقد نلنا منها حظاً، ولئن كانت شراً فكفي ذرية أبي سفيان ما أصابوا منها»، ثمّ ما لبث أن مات.
الخلافة الاموية في أقصى اتساعها
لكنَّ العديد من المؤرخين محتارون في سببِ وفاته، فمنهم من قال إنَّه قد سُمِّم، ومنهم من قال إنَّه طُعن، ومنهم من اعتقد أنّه مات ميتةً طبيعيةً في سريره، وربما قتله أقاربه من بني أميّة كي لا يفسد عليهم الأمر بوضعه للخلافة أمام الناس للشورى والاختيار.
ووفقاً لبعض الروايات فقد طالبه البعض بعدما أصبح على فراش الموت، أن يسمِّي خليفةً بعده فرفض، معتبراً أنّه سيتحمّل وزر هذا الأمر إن رشّح أحداً، قائلاً لهم إنّه لا يجد أحداً من الصلاح ليستأمنه على أمانة الخلافة، وفاضت روحه وهو في الثانية والعشرين من عمره فقط.
بعد تولِّيه الخلافة التي زهد فيها بأربعين يوماً، وقيل بعدها بثلاثة شهور.
ماذا فعل بنو أمية بعد معاوية بن يزيد؟
بعدما توفي معاوية بن يزيد، ضاعت هيبة الأمويين أمام ازدياد خطر عبدالله بن الزبير، وبايعه ليس فقط ولاة وأهل اليمن ومصر والعراق، وإنما بايعه أيضاً بعض أهل الشام ممن كانوا حلفاء يزيد بن معاوية وأبيه أيضاً، حتّى إنّ بعض بني أمية قد بايعوه أيضاً.
لكنّ أحد فروع البيت الأمويّ، وهو مروان بن الحكم بن أبي العاص، ذهب إلى الشام ليستكشف الأوضاع، ولمّا رأى الأمر قد ذهب عن بني أمية همّ أن يذهب إلى مكة ليبايع ابن الزبير، لكنّ بعض قادة الأمويين أثنوه عن ذلك وطلبوا منه أن يصبح الخليفة.
كان بعض الأمراء والقادة الآخرين يعتقدون أنه يجب تنصيب خالد بن يزيد، أخي معاوية الصغير وابن يزيد بن معاوية، لكنّ حِلف مروان بن الحكم فاز في هذه المعادلة، وبدأ الأمويون حروب الاسترداد من ابن الزبير، وظلّت الحرب بينه وبينهم عدة سنين، يفوز ابن الزبير مرة ويفوز ابن الحكم مرة أخرى.
وصل عبدالملك بن مروان إلى الخلافة -على غير المتفق عليه حين بايع الأمويون أباه مروان- وتخلّص من خصومه من البيت الأمويّ، ثمّ ولَّى الحجاج بن يوسف إمارة جيوشه في حربه مع ابن الزبير، فاستطاع الحجاج أن يهزم ابن الزبير بعدما حاصر مكة ورمى الكعبة بالمجانيق.
بالطبع دانت للأمويين جزيرة العرب بعد القضاء على ابن الزبير، ثمّ العراق وبقية الأمصار والولايات، واستمرّت الخلافة الأمويّة في المشرق سنيناً عديدة، وبعدها في الأندلس، حتّى عهد ملوك الطوائف بعد عدة قرون.
