عندما تفكر في المشروبات الغازية، يتبادر إلى ذهنك اسمان تجاريان على الفور – كوكاكولا وبيبسي. وبينما احتلت شركة كوكا كولا العناوين الإخبارية في منتصف عام 2021 بعدما استبدل اللاعب البرتغالي كريستيانو رونالدو قارورتي كوكا كولا أمامه بزجاجة مياه، يطرح سؤال نفسه: أيهما أنتج أولاً: بيبسي أم كوكاكولا؟
على الأرض، تتصارع هاتان الشركتان من أجل حصتهما في سوق المشروبات الغازية؛ وبينما تفضل مشروباً على الآخر، فقد لا تكون على دراية بالطريق الطويل والمتعرج الذي سلكه كل منهما للوصول إلى أرفف متجر البقالة المحلي اليوم ورعاية المباريات الرياضية العالمية والنجوم والمشاهير ولاعبي الرياضة.
ما حصل هنا قد يثير أزمة مع الراعي الرسمي للبطولة "كوكاكولا".

جمعنا فيما يلي أهم محطات في تاريخ هاتين الشركتين العملاقتين لاختصار رحلتهما التاريخية إلى شتى بقاع الأرض.
تاريخ سريع لكوكاكولا
تعود قصة شركة كوكا كولا إلى عام 1886، عندما صنع رجل يُدعى الدكتور جون بيمبرتون مشروب الكوكا، ليعيش عامين فقط بعد طرح هذا المنتج الجديد في السوق.
كما هو الحال غالباً مع المنتجات التي لا تزال تحقق نجاحاً هائلاً، فإن شركة Coca-Cola لم تكن تباع بكثرة في وقت مبكر من طرحها.
في الواقع، تم بيع أقل من 10 حصص في اليوم في المتوسط في السنة الأولى مقابل 5 سنتات للقارورة الواحدة في ولاية أتلانتا.

تاريخ سريع لشركة بيبسي
في حين أن قصة بيبسي لا يعود تاريخها إلى قِدم تاريخ كوكاكولا، لكنها تقاربها زمنياً.
يعود تاريخ إنتاج بيبسي إلى عام 1893، تحت اسم “مشروب براد”.
تم تصنيعه وبيعه في صيدلية في نيو بورن بولاية نورث كارولينا؛ لم تكن الفكرة مجرد تقديم مشروب جيد المذاق فحسب، بل من شأنه أيضاً تعزيز الطاقة وتحسين الهضم.
بعد خمس سنوات فقط من إنشائه، تم تغيير اسم المنتج من مشروب براد إلى بيبسي كولا.
مرت شركة Pepsi بصراعات خلال فترة الكساد الكبير، إذ أشهرت إفلاسها وبيعت أصولها إلى مالك جديد.
بعد تغيير الملكية مرة أخرى، بدأ المنتج يجد موطئ قدم من خلال الوصول بسعر أقل من Coca-Cola.
بمجرد أن استحوذت شركة Pepsi على حصة ذات مغزى من السوق، استمرت في النمو وبدأت رحلة التنافس مع شركة Coke – وما زال السباق مستمراً حتى يومنا هذا.
وبعد أكثر من قرن على إطلاقهما، تنتج الشركات منتجات أخرى ونكهات مختلفة من المشروبات الغازية.
ولكن رغم الباع الطويل والمنافسة القديمة، إلا أن المشروبين ليسا الأولين من نوعهما.

أقدم مشروبات غازية
في أوروبا
على الرغم من أن العديد من العلامات التجارية تدعي أن منتجاتها هي الأقدم، إلا أن شويبس تعتبر على نطاق واسع أقدم صودا في العالم.
كان مؤسس الشركة يوهان جاكوب شويب، أول شخص يقوم بتصنيع وبيع المياه المعدنية الغازية.

تعد شركة Vernors أقدم علامة تجارية لمشروب الزنجبيل الغازي في الولايات المتحدة وواحدة من أقدم المشروبات الغازية بشكل عام.
تم اختراع المشروب عن طريق الخطأ بواسطة جيمس فيرنور، صيدلي من ديترويت، في ستينيات القرن التاسع عشر.
في أوائل ستينيات القرن التاسع عشر، كان فيرنور يعمل على منشط طبي من الفانيليا والتوابل، مع إضافة الزنجبيل لتهدئة المعدة.
عندما تم استدعاؤه للقتال في الحرب الأهلية عام 1862، ترك الخليط في برميل من خشب البلوط للسنوات الأربع التالية.
عاد فيرنور إلى المنزل في عام 1866 وتفاجأ عندما اكتشف أن مشروبه المنشط لم يكن جيداً فحسب، بل طور نكهة أفضل من تقدم العمر في البرميل الخشبي.
في البداية باع المشروب من نافورة الصودا الخاصة به، لكنه بدأ في بيع امتيازات تعبئة الزجاجات للأشخاص الذين وافقوا على الالتزام بوصفته.
في النهاية تم بناء مصنع لإنتاج مشروب الزنجبيل الغازي بكميات كبيرة، وحالياً تملك الشركة مجموعة دكتور بيبر سنابل أو Dr. Pepper Snapple Group.
