This includes grocery stores, NSLCs and malls. Many pharmacies will be open, however, some may have reduced hours of operation Monday. Expect banks to be closed Monday, some may also be closed on Sunday. Several other businesses may be closed or have reduced operating hours on Monday, so it’s best to call ahead or check social media and/or websites for more information. TRANSPORTATION Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday schedules Monday. The Alderney ferry will operate at half-hour frequency. The first ferry crossing will depart the Alderney terminal at 7:30 a.m. while the final crossing will depart the Halifax terminal at 11:45 p.m. There will be no Woodside ferry service on Monday. On-street parking will be free on Monday. RECREATION All branches of Halifax Public Libraries will be closed Monday. The majority of municipal recreation facilities will be closed Monday; partner facilities may be closed or have modified hours. Residents are advised to call their facility for specific details. SERVICES Canada Post will not be collecting or delivering mail on Monday. There will be no municipal solid waste collection services Monday. If that’s your day, put your garbage, organics or recyclables curbside on Saturday, Oct. 9. The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax Recycling Plant and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 11, but will be open for regular hours on Saturday, Oct. 9.
