Haligonians are facing another storm this weekend, but we won’t have to shovel this one.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, a special weather statement is in effect calling for significant rain and wind on Saturday, and it’s expected a rainfall warning will be issued later in the day.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bob Robichaud said we should start seeing some light rain in the morning.

“It will gradually pick up in intensity into the afternoon hours, and by evening we’re looking at rain possibly heavy at times,” he told CityNews Halifax.

He expects between 30 and 55 mm to fall. Winds will also strengthen throughout the day.

“I don’t think we’re going to see the strongest winds here in Halifax until probably into the evening hours,” Robichaud explained.

“We could be looking at gusts to around 100 km/h at the coast and anywhere from between 70 to 90 km/h further inland.”

The high for Saturday is expected to be 10 degrees, but the temperature will fall overnight into Sunday.

“It’s not going to be a flash freeze,” Robichaud added. “I think that drop in temperature is going to be fairly gradual after midnight.”

He said to expect a daytime high of below freezing for Sunday, gusty winds and perhaps a few flurries.
