Weekend events to go ahead as planned after Scotiabank Centre fire

CITYnews halifax/ By Mark Hodgins

Good news for hockey fans – it’s full steam ahead for a busy weekend in downtown Halifax.

Events East Group, which operates the Scotiabank Centre, says Thursday’s fire didn’t compromise the building’s safety.

“We’ve conducted a thorough assessment and cleaning of the building, including air quality control testing,” read a statement from Dawn Delaney, Events East’s marketing and communications director. “Safety is a top priority for us, and we are happy to confirm that our scheduled events will continue as planned this weekend.”

That fire on Thursday broke out on the exterior of the building where work is being done, according to the statement. Halifax Fire crews were able to quickly bring it under control.

Scotiabank Centre will be hosting the Halifax Mooseheads on Saturday night, and then the PWHL “Takeover Tour” hits the ice on Sunday afternoon featuring Ottawa taking on Boston.
