HMCS Kingston and HMCS Summerside were deployed in support of NATO assurance and deterrence measures in European waters

Yesterday, HMCS Kingston and HMCS Summerside made it home after the four-month mission in the North Atlantic and the Baltic Sea.

The Navy says the vessels were involved in Operation REASSURANCE in support of NATO assurance and deterrence measures in European waters.

Part of the job for the Canadian contingent included dive teams who work to identify and disable mines in order to keep shipping lanes clear.

In a statement, Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence, expressed her appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the Navy in demonstrating Canada’s role in supporting security and stability in Central and Eastern Europe.

According to the National Defence release, Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels have the range and capability to be deployed across the globe and have the versatility to complete a wide variety of missions due to their modular payload capabilities.
