The Department of Justice says the pair slipped away just before 9 p.m. Thursday. Chad Stephen Clarke had been on remand for several charges including theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, possession, and break and enter. The 28-year-old is described as 5’10” and around 160 pounds with light brown hair, blue eyes and a beard. Thomas Joseph Smith was also on remand at the facility for several charges including driving while disqualified, failing to attend court, breaching conditions, robbery, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and carrying a concealed weapon. The 31-year-old is described as six feet tall and about 180 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a beard. Anyone with information is asked to call Halifax Regional Police at 902-490-5020.
