Two dead after New Year’s Eve incident on Gottingen Street

Halifax Regional Police are investigating two deaths following an incident in the city’s north end on New Year’s Eve.

At approximately 10:35 p.m., officers responded to reports of an injured person in the area of 2406 Gottingen Street, near Portland Place. Upon arrival, they found a deceased female and an unresponsive male. The man, who was critically injured, was rushed to the QE2 Health Sciences Centre by EHS, but was later pronounced dead.

The identities of the victims have not been confirmed, and police say investigators, along with the Forensic Identification Unit, are working to determine what led to the deaths.

The Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, which has resulted in the closure of Gottingen Street, along with nearby Uniacke Street and Charles Street, as authorities continue to gather information.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward or to reach out to Crimestoppers with tips.

Traffic disruptions are expected in the area, and authorities are advising motorists to seek alternate routes.
