Three HRM swimming areas closed due to high bacteria levels

by admin

CITYnews halifax \ By Dan Ahlstrand

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) has closed three popular swimming areas after routine testing showed higher than acceptable levels of bacteria in the water according to standards set out by Health Canada.

Albro Lake Beach and Penhorm Beach in Dartmouth and Birch Cove Beach in Bedford are closed until further notice

The City says staff regularly test the water quality at all supervised municipal beaches during the summer months.

High bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including dogs, birds, wildlife and impacts from climate change, such as high temperatures.

HRM says they will continue testing the water until bacteria levels return to safe levels and will advise residents when the beaches reopens.
