Speed limits dropping in Fairview

CITYnews halifax / By Mark Hodgins

Drivers will need to slow down travelling through the Fairview neighbourhood in Halifax.

The regional municipality says speed limits in Fairview are being reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h.

The affected area, Fairview, is bounded by Main Avenue, Dutch Village Road, Highway 102 and Dunbrack Street.

“Neighbourhood speed limit reductions are part of the municipality’s ongoing initiatives to improve road safety,” read a media release from the municipality. “Studies show that a reduction inoperating speed from 50km/h to 40km/h increases the pedestrian survival rate by 40 per cent.”

The city says crews will begin signage work on the week of April 14.
