Those driving through the Beechville Estates area will soon need to go slower.
The Halifax Regional Municipality says the top speed will be lowered to 40 km/h on a section of residential streets that include Beech Tree Run, Sheppards Run, Stone Hill Place, States Lane and Loppie Close.
In a news release, HRM says this is part of an ongoing initiative to improve road safety.
Speed limits on public roadways are legislated by the province’s Motor Vehicle Act.
“The province allows municipalities to request posted speed limits below 50 km/h if accompanied by necessary documentation including current operating speeds and roadway characteristics,” HRM says.
“The speed limit reduction in these areas is being implemented following provincial approval based on available data and an assessment of roadway characteristics that meet their qualifications.”
Crews will be putting up the new signs this week.
