Sandy Lake Beach reopens after nearby wastewater pumping station failure

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) says Sandy Lake Beach is safe for swimming.

The Bedford beach had been closed since shortly after the July 22 floods, due to high water and a failure at a nearby wastewater pumping station.

The Municipality now says the beach can reopen after follow-up tests show bacteria levels in the water are once again at safe levels in accordance with Health Canada guidelines.

During the summer months, Sandy Lake Beach is supervised with regular water testing, as are all supervised municipal beaches.
