Rainfall warning issued ahead of early March storm

Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for most of mainland Nova Scotia including the entirety of HRM as storm system makes it’s approach.

“Temperatures falling through the day and night so we will see a change-over on Thursday to some mixing to some freezing rain and ice pellets and some snow.” said CityNews Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi “A very active day tomorrow”

Environment Canada expect to see Showers ending later Wednesday morning before heavy rain redevelops later in the day. Rain is expected to transition through freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow Thursday evening before precipitation tapers off Thursday night.

Forecasters said that most of the province will see 30-50 mm of rain before the transition through freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow Thursday evening before precipitation tapers off Thursday night.  Eastern and northern Nova Scotia are at the highest risk of an extended period of freezing rain.

The forecast is also calling for winds gusting as high as 70 km/h.

With the ground still frozen in many areas, forecasters warn of the potential for localized flooding and slippery driving conditions where freezing rain occurs.
