Proposals sought for downtown Dartmouth mixed-use development

The project will include affordable housing

The province is offering up a parking lot in downtown Dartmouth for development. 

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing says the 5,375 square metre parcel of land on King Street will be a mixed-use project which will include affordable housing.

Develop Nova Scotia is issuing an open invitation for proposals.

“We’ve designed this opportunity to invite the creativity of developers and social impact organizations to bring an innovative approach to building housing that is attainable, sustainable and desirable,” said the organization’s president and CEO in a news release.

“Our goal is to challenge each other to make a valuable development site in the heart of our urban centre work harder to meet the social and environmental needs of our community.”

The first deadline for proposals is March 28. After that, those who are successful will move on to a second and more detailed phase.

“We are looking at our inventory of provincially owned land to determine what’s best suited for housing and will offer more plots for development as quickly as possible.” added Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister John Lohr.
