Power has been knocked out to hundreds of people in Dartmouth.

As of 12:25 p.m., Nova Scotia Power says the outage remains in the area by the MacKay Bridge affecting parts of Tufts Cove, Shannon Park and Wrights Cove.

About 1,400 customers are without electricity.

The utility says damage to overhead equipment is to blame.

Drivers who encounter an intersection with non-functioning traffic lights are to treat it as an all way stop.
