Nova Scotia’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate a shooting involving a Halifax Regional Police officer.

The incident happened on Thursday night on Plateau Cres. in Clayton Park. HRP said officers were in the area searching for the suspect in a stabbing.

As officers approached the man, police allege the suspect pointed a firearm at an officer, and that officer “discharged their service weapon”.

The shooting sent the man to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates police-involved incidents leading to injury or death, will now look into the matter.
