Halifax Regional Police are marking the one year anniversary of the murder of an 8-year-old right before Christmas by asking those with information to come forward.

At around 4 p.m. on December 21, 2021, shots were fired from one vehicle into another on Windmill Road near Waddell Avenue.

Passenger Lee’Marion Shancez Cain, who was 8 years old, was struck by the bullets. The boy was rushed to the IWK where he died of his injuries.

A 26-year-old man was also shot and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“Video footage has been a key part of the investigation and has provided that at least two suspects were involved in the homicide and helped investigators identify and locate the vehicle believed to be used by the suspects,” HRP said in a news release.

“The suspects are described as Black men in their 20s-30s who were driving a burgundy Chevrolet Traverse with tinted windows.”

Investigators believe there are people who have information that could help them solve the case.

“This is a tragic death that deeply affected many in our community,” HRP added. “Our investigators believe that even the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.”

Anyone with information can call police at 902-490-5016.

Earlier this year, the homicide was added to the province’s Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, and for the first time ever, the Department of Justice increased the potential award to $250,000 for this case. Usually it offers up to $150,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Those who call 1-888-710-9090 will need to provide their name and contact information, and may be called to testify in court.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
