The 36-year-old’s body was found in a basement window well of the former St. Patrick’s-Alexandra School on Maitland Street at 2:17 p.m. on May 11, 2009. According to the province’s crime rewards program, Brooks was known to frequent the Gottingen Street area. The mother of five was last seen leaving the Halifax Regional Police Headquarters at about 8:20 p.m. on May 10, 2009. Police say they’ve been able to track her movements until around 9 p.m. that night. “Investigators believe Tanya knew her assailant(s) and that there are people who have information that could help solve her murder,” said HRP in a news release. “We hope that the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know.” Police would also like to hear from anyone who saw anything in the area of the school that night, adding “the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 902-490-5016. The case is also part of the Nova Scotia Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, which offers up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
